odditiesoflife:Snake IslandAn aerial view of the Brazilian island of Ilha de Queimada Grande is breathtaking. But looks can be deceiving. Also known as Snake Island or Island of Fear, its deadly residents are waiting to kill anything that steps foot on the island. If you were actually able to go there, you would always be within 3 feet of your death. Because for every square meter of land on the island, there is a very deadly, very poisonous snake called the Golden Lancehead.Snake Island is about 90 miles off the coast of Brazil and is generally void of people. The Brazilian Navy has forbidden people from visiting there, except for a few scientists who must obtain special permits. The lancehead snakes on the island can grow anywhere between ½ to 2 meters long. The venom they inject in one bite is so powerful that it melts the flesh surrounding the bite and has enough poison to kill two men. With no enemies, the snakes have taken over the island. They mainly survive by feasting on migratory birds that use the island as a resting place.source 1, 2, 3 -- source link
