As we head into the chill of winter, are you looking for fun indoor activities that the whole family can enjoy? Avoid cabin fever by joining us at Arty Facts—our Sunday drop-in program that offers adults and their children (ages 4-7) opportunities to explore art in the galleries and make their own art in the studio. Weekly themes this past fall have included fun and familiar topics, such as “Food and Still Lifes” and “Beaches and Landscapes,” and gallery activities that help children and their adult companions engage with works of art include scavenger hunts, kinesthetic movement, soundscapes, and sketching. After spending some time in the galleries, both adults and children get creative in the studio with art projects, ranging from multimedia sculpture to animal self-portraits. At certain sessions of Arty Facts this winter and spring, Brooklyn-based artists will co-teach the program alongside museum educators. Join us on January 24th for a program with artist Gordon Hall—whose work was featured last year in Crossing Brooklyn. With recent work combines sculpture, spoken word, projection, and physical movement—you can probably expect some sound and movement as part of the program! Check our calendar for more updates about the Visiting Artist Series throughout the next few months.Arty Facts does not meet on December 20th or 27th but we’ll will resume classes January 3rd.
