Kennedy set a national goal of “landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the earth” by the end of the decade. Eight years later, on July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin emerged from the Apollo 11 lunar module and took their first steps. The prints on view in the To the Moon gallery are on loan from the University of Arizona Space Imagery Center. The selection of images is recreated here using digital scans of a different set of Apollo prints made by the Lunar and Planetary Institute in cooperation with NASA.
