The Schmidt-Rubin Series,A excellent rifle created by Rudolph Schmidt using Eduard Rubin’s 7.5x55 cartridge, the Schmidt-Rubin (SR) series of rifles would become the staple of the Swiss Army from 1889 well into the 1950’s. Some models would continue to see use as sniper rifles even into the 1970’s.The one aspect that gives the SR such fame is the fact that it is a straight pull rifle, meaning that the bolt only needs to be worked forward and back. The original SR also used an 11 round detachable magazine. During the late 19th century this was a very revolutionary design indeed. All SR rifles are made with a quality and craftsmanship that is unparalleled in the military surplus market, and is quite possibly the finest common issue bolt action rifle. There accuracy is also very notable. However, only 1.3 million were made in various models during its history, production numbers that are small compared to most other countries rifles. Due to Switzerland’s neutrality they were never fired in anger. The most popular model today is the K-31, a more compact carbine version with a 6 round magazine that was made during the World War II era. -- source link
