The Hafner Rotabuggy,One of the strangest World War II designs, the Hafner Rotabuggy was a creation of Austrian born British helicopter engineer Raoul Hafner. Also known as the “Flying Jeep”, the Rotabuggy was designed as a method to provide vehicles for paratroopers and other airborne forces. The Rotabuggy was essentially a jeep with an aircraft tail and set of rotors. The vehicle would have been towed into battle, and when it reached the drop zone the tow cable would be released at which point the Rotabuggy would glide to the ground. The Rotabuggy made several experimental flights but was never adopted by the military, which instead chose to use glider planes to transport heavy equipment. A similar concept “Rotatank” was also planned using a British valentine tank, but was never constructed. -- source link
