yougottaletitout:It’s not what I’m used toJust wanna try you onI’m curious for youCaught my attentionI kissed a girl and I liked it. Tina sings a pop song. It’s the only song out of the audition numbers that doesn’t match the trope she’s portraying. But it’s not just any pop song, it’s one by someone who doesn’t really represent anything. Katy Perry’s debut was controversial in a way for releasing this song, but it’s fake. It’s straight girls making out. Tina mentions Britney Spears being her idol in Britney/Brittany. Neither Britney nor Katy Perry are things to associate with a Goth Girl. What it comes down to is that Tina isn’t so much Goth as that she tries to get the attention away from what else is going on with her appearance. Just like she shortens her name to Tina C-C-C-C-C-C, so the Chang doesn’t stand out. It’s most easily summed up with Brown Eyes. (A follow up from the first time they did Gaga, and Tina wore a platinum blonde wig and so on.)She wants, at this point in the show, to be the white (pop-)singer, (but she’s not going to get that opportunity). Of course then there’s that ‘fake lesbianism’ part of the song, which corresponds with her fake stutter. Tina hides who she is by dressing the way she does, she fakes controversy with her song choice, but above all she hides by faking a stutter and nobody notices. On the other hand this song also speaks of experimentation, and a girl who fakes a stutter just to get out of giving a presentation in front of her classmates, certainly challenges herself by singing in front of an audience.(Or at least, by trying to join a club in which she’ll need to do that.) The two unreleased songs we only heard Tina sing part of in Season 1 (I Kissed A Girl and Tonight) both show up completely in Season 3, although sung by different people. What’s also worth noting about this song that a girl can sing “I Kissed A Girl” without being labelled as a lesbian, but a boy cannot sing like Kurt does without being labelled as gay. -- source link
