The Sharps Single Shot Pistol,While Sharps are famous for their long range and accurate rifles and carbines, the company did dabble a bit in the pistol market. A rare Sharps breechloading pistol was produced in limited quantities. Using the same type of action found on a Sharps rifle, it was a black powder pistol that used a paper cartridge. The user would insert a cartridge into the breech and when the breech was closed it would snip the paper cartridge open. The user would then place a percussion cap on the nipple, cock the hammer, and fire. Most were made in .36 caliber. Only 850 were produced from 1854 - 1857. Today they are a rare find on the market. The one pictured above sold at auction for around $3,000. Other models can sell for as much as $5,000. -- source link
