The Madsen M-47, An excellent rifle that was made a little too late.Created by Danish gun designers Rassmusen and Madsen, the Madsen rifle was a culmination of decades of work. Madsen basically took the best features of the world’s most popular bolt action military rifles combined them in one package. The action was designed after the Mosin Nagant with a split bridge receiver. The turned down bolt handle (modeled after the Mannlicher) combined with locking lugs made for easy working of the action and prevented wobble and binding. The magazine was similar to that of the 98 Mauser, and locked after the last round, alerting the operator that it was empty. It also sported ergonomics that were ahead of their time (the rubber butt plate is original), and was designed to be used by soldiers of both large and small stature. Finally the M-47 sported a built in muzzle brake to reduce recoil.Simple, rugged, accurate, and economical the M-47 was an excellent military bolt action rifle. In 1948 Madsen introduced the M-47 to the world market in calibers 6.5x55, 7x57, 7.65x53, and 30-06. The problem was that nobody wanted them. While they were excellent bolt action rifles the world was moving on to semi-automatics. 5,000 M-47’s would be produced for the Colombian Navy, and sales on the civilian market were very sporadic. -- source link
