laurylvarnish:Taken from The Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia 2014.Clumsy AND unsubtle?Bloody Cheek!Rude. The Doctor himself is a sight more clumsy than Harry is, it’s just that the Doctor likes to be rude to his friends in this era (and others), and because he says it, a lot of people take it to be true, instead of evaluating the evidence with their own eyes!I mean, to take one example alone, in The Sontaran Experiment the Doctor grumbles about Harry’s clumsiness upon learning that he’s fallen into a deep pit, but it is unequivocally established on-screen that the pit had been deliberately concealed, as a trap, which is why Harry didn’t see it. And having complained about Harry’s clumsiness, the Doctor then falls into the pit himself despite knowing full well that it is there. So really, which of the two is the clumsy one there? As for unsubtle, let us not forget that moment in Genesis of the Daleks when the Doctor flies into a panic about the Time Ring being confiscated, and Harry has to calm him down and point out that it might not be such a good idea to let their captors know how important it is. Who’s the unsubtle one in that moment? And I haven’t even started on how many times Harry outright saves the Doctor’s life during the all-too brief time they travel together. Why is the collective memory of fandom so hell bent on remembering Harry only for his flaws, and never for his very many strengths?Grr. -- source link
