#Repost @nalgonapositivitypride (@get_repost)・・・#Repost @fat_therapist・・・Trauma is a word that often gets left out of body talk because of another stigma, mental health. Trauma can be lots of things and is personal to the individual, and can include belonging to a stigmatised group. Trauma doesn’t mean one event that changed everything, it can be small traumas that have built up over time, which typically lead to factors that predispose to more trauma. This aspect is on top of other sociocultural pressures and may have even developed from it. It’s a complex system. Diets can be another form of avoidance, and also an attempt at ‘fixing myself’ so the trauma doesn’t happen again. The structure of diets can also offer a sense of safety and control, where we may not have felt that during the trauma. Avoidance serves a purpose yes, we may not be ready to deal with emotional content and that’s perfectly okay. As long as we do not buy into the false promise of freedom we usually idealise in diets.
