brilliantbotany:As mentioned in my most recent YouTube video, this is Sandfood, Pholisma sonorae. It’s an interesting little plant, native to deserts in the Western United States. It is parasitic, and its underground stem grafts itself onto the roots of neighboring shrubs. This stem can be up to 6 ft (2 meters) long, and only the plant’s strange-looking inflorescence is visible above ground.
