“Cheese Ban Imposed By Health Officers,” Toronto Globe. December 22, 1930. Page 05.—-Sale of Limburger of Suspected Type to Be Discontinued—-(Special Despatch to The Globe.)Kitchener, Dec. 21. - After an investigation and a consultation with the Provincial health authorities, the Kitchener Department of Health has instructed local dealers to discontinue selling limburger cheese of the type that has allegedly caused some case of serious illness in this city. The department believes that unpasteurized milk may be the cause of the trouble, and maintains that all butter and cheese making plants should be under Provincial regulation. The plant from which the alleged bad cheese emanated is outside the city, and the civic authorities have no control over it. ‘The fault does not lie with the manufacturer, but it is attributable to the lack of regulation covering the source of supply of the milk,’ said an official. -- source link
