at last i have put together an influence/inspiration map, lengthy listings/explainings under the cut fhgdfhTHE LION KING- i’d arguably call the long kong my main formative inspiration from when i was wee. i know this is a very normie inspiration but i just love everything about it,,HOMESTINK- listen i can’t deny that it influenced my doodles, for better or for worseLOONER TUNES- i was not a disney princess child growing up, and i think instead of watching the princess movies i replaced that with a lot of roadrunner coyoteGINGA NAGAREBOSHI GIN- these weird anime dogs with their 80s synth music still haunt me tremendously…i dont know..NICOLAS MARLET- does he need more explanationPOKEMONG- i have been creating fake pokemon since elementary school and i have no intention of stoppingHERALDRY- i have a weird boner for heraldic meanings and coat of arms i love the doofy stylization of the animals and how theyre always given pronounced dicksЯ НА СОЛНЫШКЕ ЛЕЖУ- ive got a lot of influences from watching tons of soviet cartoons growing up so im just gonna pick ones i think stood out a lot and i still love, like this oneRUSSIAN FLORAL DESIGNS- ive been around these all my life we got decorative bowls and stuff all over my house i just really like putting in russian influences into things when i can?@dimetrodone- has corrupted me with monsters, dinosaurs, and body horror for the better, congrats kid.ANTONI GAUDI- i’m hardly a connoisseur on architecture but goddamn i love gaudi. it was definitely my highlight from going to barcelona, the statue i chose is the same style as my favourite piece of his, the passion of christ facade on the Sagrada Familia. honestly i think it’s what began my experiments in drawing with sharp geometric lines. i just, i really love it.КОНЕК ГОРБУНОК- a 1947 USSR film of the little humpback horse, basically there’s a part where the main character ivan has to catch a fire bird for the tsar, and that firebird design is more or less the basis design ive been influenced since i was like, seven, to draw cartoon fire birds with..(to be fair so is most of russia)REMBRANDT- as far as the oldies go, i’ve always been a rembrandt bitch. i love deep contrast lighting and i love using warm tones so there you go.SWORD IN THE STONE- i may love lion king, but sketchy disney is my favourite disney era, and this is the movie i watched the most, my mom and i both love it.JOHAN CHRISTIAN DAHL- my favourite landscape painter i discovered 2 years ago in an oslo gallery. prints and photos of his paintings hardly do them justice but seeing them in person is fucking incredibleDEVIANTART- i’m not even gonna list individual artists because the wolf community was so homogenized. i was a dumb woof artist on deviantart for 5+ years. i’m arguably recovering.ASIAN DRAGON DEPICTIONS- i feel like it often takes more work to somehow make a chinese dragon boring than a european dragon..but maybe thats my western conditioning, either way they are very pleasing to look at and its fun to draw spaghetti dragonsREN AND STIMPY- i admire (not all of) john k’s work, its complicated. but i do look up to the ren and the stump.HAIDA FOLK ART- i’ve had a really deep admiration for haida artwork for a really long time, and its a main reason i still want to visit the west coast and educate myself moreBYZANTINE/MEDIEVAL ARTWORK- theres just something really charming about it, and its always my main destination whenever i go to galleries and museumsCHEBURASHKA- this little turd.SHELBY- definitely my favourite hs artist, i have 2 prints and calendars with her art.finallyVALIANT.DO I CONSIDER THIS STUPID FILM A VISUAL INSPIRATION? NO.HONESTLY NOTHING ABOUT THAT MOVIE IS GOOD. BUT WHAT IT DID DO IS SOLIDIFY MY AFFINITY FOR PIGEONS, AND PLANTED THE SEED THAT ONE DAY I MAY BRING JUSTICE, AND TACKLE A WWII PIGEON MOVIE MYSELF, WHICH REACHES BEYOND ARTISTIC INFLUENCE. -- source link
