typhlonectes:Naturalist Journal: Bleeding ToothI took another couple of photos of the Bleeding Tooth Fungus (Hydnellum sp.) growing outside the visitor’s center at the nature center where I work in Houston,TX.While the fruiting bodies of the fungi in this genus can be quite variable, I don’t think that this is the widely photographed and better known species H. peckii. That species is associated with pine trees, and this one seems to be growing on the and near the stump of an old cherry tree. Every other species I can find that is associated with hardwoods doesn’t at all resemble this.Any suggestions on an ID from mycology enthusiasts would be greatly appreciated!photos by Paxon Kale-CovarrubiasMy first impression on seeing the photo was that it would be a newly emerging bracket fungus - Inonotus dryadeus or similar… -- source link
