thebaconsandwichofregret:Once had to stop a woman in a McDonald’s from taking my friend’s insulin because she thought it was drugs. Legit tried to snatch it out of her hand while she was taking the injection. I’d like to pretend we had something clever and witty to say like this, only really managed “she’s diabetic you stupid bitch” before a staff member stepped in. Turns out it’s pretty common for people to be uncomfortable with insulin shots, my friends had waiters ask her to not use her medication and gotten dirty looks from strangers. It’s quite shocking that this happens to almost every insulin user at least once considering how common diabetes is, but hey, ignorance is the most infectious disease there is.My mother is an insulin dependent diabetic and she has Epi Pen-like insulin dispensers for both her long-acting and short-acting insulin, and even though they’re much more discrete than what she used to use (needle and insulin vial) she still won’t give herself shots i public due to the stigma. There’s times she will literally forget to until hours later when problems start just because of the dirty looks she’s gotten in the past. -- source link
