queenoftheantz:Shinooka- Greylag gooseMomoe- Whooper swanShiga sensei- ShibaThe oofuri witches are here! Click the images to see what the familiars are! LOTS of more info will be added in a reblog!Mihashi- Mihashi knew early on that he was a witch. He met his familiar already in elementary school, even if it took a while for them to learn how to communicate. In the beginning, he lived close to an old lady who wasn’t a witch herself, but who had grown up with a real forest witch close by, and could tell him about magic and witch culture with pretty good accuracy. But then he moved with his family to a house on the countryside, just at the border of a big forest. His parents tried to support him, but they don’t know one bit about witches, so he was left to his own device. In such a small town, he was met by much suspicion, either BECAUSE he was a witch, or because people DOUBTED he was. Mihashi’s power is basically willpower-charms. He can whisper small words over objects and by doing that putting a charm on them to do his will. It has to be very specific, and within the objects limits ( you can’t tell a football to win a match, that’s way too abstract, or to lift weights, because it would have to change form and such). He has perfected this art, and can make pretty specific things happen. However, for this magic you must know what you want, and you must really WANT IT to happen. His former classmates was kind of freaked out when he used his magic, and got angry when he couldn’t do things THEY wanted him to do. So he got the impression that he was terrible at his magic, since he couldn’t do just whatever he was told. When he works on his power, he will eventually reach a point where he can affect things without even whispering the charm, he can just focus on something REALLY hard. (This was a reason that he got such a bad experience when he was younger, when he thought people didn’t like him he focused so HARD on that, it became a self fulfilling prophecy when a tiny bit magic amplified their irritation) His way there will be hard though, as there will be a period when he is learning it when he hasn’t fully learnt it, and often stumble in will on wether or not he should use it, which messes up his regular charms too! Abe- Learnt that he was a witch a little later, in middle school, but when he learnt it, he worked hard to learn EVERYTHING he could about it. But his talent isn’t flashy at all: He can sense other’s magic, if they have it, what they are good at, how developed they are and even the very nature of the magic (that will take training though!). Despite how rare it is with witches, there was one more not too far away and of course they were kind of forced together because of that. I think we all know who that was. Abe got teased for his plain magic, but as the stubborn guy he is, he just struggled on with it. He got good at it, and wanted to help the other witch to reach their potential. They struggled to find their talent within magic, and with his power he could help them to see what to focus on. But the other witch just brushed him off, and it lead to many magical accidents with bad spells and reckless magic. When Abe meets Mihashi, he sees his potential when everyone else doubt he even IS a witch. He also starts out bossing Mihashi around, claiming to know best. In time he learns that the best way to use Mihashi’s powers, and his own, is to work together for real. Mihashi must WANT to do what they do, and not be the slightest unsure. He must trust Abe and Abe must trust Mihashi to know his own magic.Hanai- Grew up in a regular family in a small town. He learnt that he was a witch when Momoe recruited him to the magical baseball team, which he first refused. But when he met his familiar, he was more or less forced to join. He have all these very old and wrong ideas about who and what witches are. He is also very uncomfortable at first with the whole gender thing. It was a common misconception through history that witches are women since they often wear skirts. Witches don’t sort themselves in sex-based genders. Their norms are formed around different types of magic and familiars, not what you have between your legs, and it doesn’t affect clothing style or behaviour in the same way.Hanai has a hard time to let go of both what he thought he knew about witches, and his old gender roles. He comes to accept it, and becomes a proud witch. His mom dresses him in beautiful floral patterned skirts and dresses, but when he dares to buy his own, he has a very classy, simple but elegant style. He sometimes help the others in the team to dress nicely. (Tajima. He is the one who needs it)His powers are flower power, and he didn’t have much control over it from the beginning. Flowers grew wherever he walked. They haven’t figured out how to use these powers in the games, but he still can’t join the regular team since he might find a use for it eventually, or use other more basic magic. But he is strong and talented enough to be an important part of the team.Tajima- Learnt about the witch deal in middle school, and like Abe started to work hard with it. His family is big and kind of knew about witches, even if no one knew anyone personally. They just told him the deal, but didn’t have time to teach him anything. But he did get some attention for it, and he decided to work on it. One time he lost control of it, and couldn’t ”turn it off”. It scared him BADLY, but no one in his family noticed it at all. That’s why he is so enthusiastic about Momoes team, he really wants to learn to control his powers, and get good enough to do something useful with it.His power is a kind of slow motion vision. Really, it’s him speeding up his own nerv signals to the brain, it makes the world seem to go super slow, and super clear to him. It’s very useful in combination with his natural feeling for baseball. But still, it won’t help as long as he doesn’t have the physics. It buggs him that Hanai, without any useful power, still is closing up on him.Sakeaguchi- Sakeaguchi’s mom was a witch. She had a small bird familiar, an Eurasian tree sparrow, and they were very close. A witch can only talk to her own familiar, it’s about ”tuning in” your magic with the familiar. But if you spend enough time with another familiar, you might be able to communicate with it too. Sakeaguchi could do a little of that with his mom’s bird. Just before entering the Nishihura team, his mom died, nothing magical, just a regular sickness. Sakeaguchi took that very hard, especially since her familiar disappeared just after her death. He had hoped to seek comfort in one of his mother’s closest friends, and who was to him a weird extra parent in a form of a bird. But it left without a word. Soon after, he noticed that he was followed by a small bird. At first he thought it was his mother’s familiar, but soon he realised that it was HIS. He hid, fled, because the witch world was a painful thing for him now, something that reminded him of his mother who left unwillingly, and the familiar who left by choice. But as then he met Momoe. She found him while he was hiding from his own familiar. In some ways, she reminded him of his mother, but at the same time she was so very different. She told him that she was starting a magic baseball team, how she hoped to gather witches and teach them their magic and what a witch really is. In one way, that was what Sakeaguchi needed. He needed to face the witch he was, but he also needed guidance. He stopped avoiding his familiar, and even if they are still a bit awkward at times, they are slowly growing closer. In time, he will meet his mother’s familiar again, and they will talk about what happened and tie some of the loose ends together. His power is communcation (the audio part), both with languages, but also with animals, especially birds. The team suspects that’s why he is so good with Mihashi and Abe.Izumi- Learnt that he is a witch now in high school, but is very down to earth about it. He never cared much for gendered clothing anyway, and enjoy surprisingly flashy dresses. His powers are abstract, he has a nack for spells of change. Either in mind or physically/material. It’s not that he can do whatever, but he can give things a puff in the right direction. Easy things can be to heat water, cool it, starting a movement or give someone a mood-vibe. He can’t hold it, it’s more of an impact kind of magic, but he can get things going.Mizutani- Is just as new to magic, and even if he laughed a little at it in the beginning, he adjusts pretty well to the new circumstances. His magic is, ironically, a balanced magic. It’s the opposite of Izumi’s. Mizutani is good at stopping movement, stabilise something that is loosing balance or keeping something as it is. It is magic of silence and calm. He has a hard time controlling it though, and it takes a long time before he even figures out WHAT his talent is within the fields of magic.Nishihiro- Is very very new to magic. It was Momoe and Abe who saw that he had it, and snatched him for the team. He knows next to nothing about it, and is still struggling with just the basics, but he is smart and slowly going forward. His magc will appear to be strongest in written spells and markings. Reading, writing and documenting spells is his deal, and it will be to great help for the team when he save spells they figure out along the way, or creates new ones for them to have on small notes in case they need them.Oki- is, like Nishihiro, completely new to all this. Though he joined the team himself. He saw them at the baseball field, and hot a feeling that some things that had happened could be explained by them. Abe confirmed that he was indeed a witch. Oki’s magic is very hands on. He has stone magic. Everything from moving to breaking to form and recognize stones, pebbles and gems. It could be a very useful skill, but he still have a lot to work on to control it!Suyama- Suyama grew up on a farm, and kind of used his powers, but not really knowing what he did, and barely noticeable. The powers are extremely practical: he can move things with his mind. But what he did on his own was uncontrolled and only small things like spiderweb or pebbles. It also takes a lot of energy and concentration for him to do anything intentionally.Shinooka- Shinooka would have joined the team as a player, but they still haven’t figured out her powers yet, and she can’t even use regular basic magic yet. Abe is too new with his powers to understand hers yet, but they have a theory that she has a power strong enough to cancel out the basic magic you would normally have. (Which is right. Her power is to control the flow of energy. It is extremely hard to master, but when she does, she will be able to take energy from one thing and use it to move things, heat them, transform them and many other things. You could say it’s a stronger version of the basic magic every witch has, but more accurate and stronger in each field.)Momoe- Doesn’t have a special magic power, she only has the basics of magic. Though she knew she was a witch early on, her dad didn’t like it and kept her away from learning magic or about witch culture. He failed. Completely. Though her own magic isn’t very strong, she has studied the old and new ways of witches. She wants to start a magical baseball team, as magic isn’t an approved subject in school, and pure magic clubs often are seen on negatively. She will teach them baseball, but also how to use their powers (in games but by doing that, in real life too).Shiga sensei- Shiga IS a witch, but only discovered it very very late. It was too late for him to be able to learn how to use magic properly, and it was simply not strong enough in him. He can make some small sparkles in the air at his best. He can’t really communicate with his familiar (his dog), though they have a good relationship and seem to get each other better than most pets and their owners. But he embraced it anyway and is very excited to help Momoe gather young witches! For more info on the universe, more witches both original and from other shows, why everyone has skirts and animals and magic powers, please look at my witch au tag! -- source link
