Leaching and precipitationOld abandoned mines are full of ongoing chemistry, usually nasty and bad for the environment (see http://bit.ly/2n5qxMx), but every now and again true beauty results. The reddish deposit on this old timber that once shored up a gallery is native copper that was dissolved and concentrated by percolating groundwater, and then re precipitated on and in the wood, creating quite an unusual effect.
