Eventually if they’re cut off from their tech they pretty much have to ask an art major how long division works.That’s actually something that psychology has confirmed before. The brain retains things better when they can’t be easily looked up.Can confirm. I was in the IB program in high school. One of my classmates once told me that he’d been at the grocery store with his mom and she’d asked him to add up the total of their purchases, sort of as a joke, and he told her he couldn’t do that in his head but he could do a derivative if she’d give him one.She gave him one.He solved it correctly.Another classmate told me about the time she was helping her eight-year-old niece with her math homework. She read the problem, got all excited, and began walking her niece through the steps of solving for X, at which point her very confused niece said, “Auntie Sara, that’s a multiplication sign.” -- source link
