animatedamerican:aceofhadeon:rochellenorlund1990:The Halloween Special of Gargoyles.Or the shorter version-D: “Wanna do the thing?”F: “You?”D: “Yeah.”F: “Deal.”Ah yes, my OTP!I’ve seen some people disapprove of this scene, stating that it seems rushed and out of character for David and Fox. I disagree. This always stood out for me as a perfect example of these two’s personalities and relationship. They are pragmatic, not given to emotional displays, and completely in tune with each other. At this point in their relationship, marriage was a foregone conclusion for David. Fox knows of his wishes, judging by the fact that she seems to be only mildly surprised and wanting to know if he’s being sarcastic. He lays out the pros like marriage is a business proposition that is beneficial to both parties. Fox asks about “love” with a tinge of sarcasm that shows she’s on David’s page when it comes to that “emotion.” (At this point they both consider it only an emotion, not a choice or action.) She accepts the offer like the business colleague that she is. The whole exchange is elegant, efficient, and streamlined, not to mention it gives full respect to Fox’s status as an equal - and in some ways superior. David proposing in a flowery or “cutesy” way would’ve rung hollow and contradicted Fox’s and his usual MO.On another note, the travel in character arcs in this ep makes it one of my favorites.I cannot fathom how anybody could consider this entire exchange out of character for Fox and Xanatos. It’s not just in character, it’s one of those scenes you show people to give them an idea of what the characters are like. -- source link
