Check out these puzzle initials from a late 14th century breviary possibly illuminated in Germany, Ms. Codex 714. Initials “E” (fol. 53r), “S” (fol. 26r), “D” (fol. 10r), and “C” (fol. 74r).Puzzle initials are those illuminated in red and blue ink where blank parchment space is left between the two blocks of so they appear to fit together like puzzle pieces.
