My pick for Day 17 of 31 days of my favorite scary movies is the 2001 psychological thriller Frailty. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as a man who enters a Dallas, Texas FBI office seeking a particular agent to explain why he believes his brother is the “God’s Hand” serial killer who the agency has been hunting. Much of the movie occurs in flashback as he recounts growing up with his brother and a father (played by Bill Paxton, who also directs) who believes he has been given a mission by God to hunt down and destroy “demons” masquerading as regular people. The two boys’ lives are irrevocably warped as Dad brings them in to help with his holy crusade. This movie twists and turns as it takes us further down the rabbit hole of one man’s obsession often raising more questions than it answers. Kudos to the entire cast for their work with this challenging material, and a special shout out to Matt O'Leary and Jeremy Sumpter who are absolutely believable as the sons, one onboard with his father’s crusade and one who thinks he’s a madman. -- source link
