thecheshirecass: enchantedcastles: a leia comic about loss. The fact that we never get to see Leia truly grieve, even in the comic mini series they did for her (which was honestly kind of awful) shows that they never intended to make her real. Luke gets to grieve more fo Obi Wan than Leia does for her whole planet. I think it’s because Lucas was trying to make an uplifting movie for kids without dwelling on darker aspects.Destruction of Alderaan was there for us to say “Wow, Empire is soooo evil they destroyed an ENTIRE PLANET!” not to explore psychological ramifications of such loss.Luke doesn’t get to grieve his adoptive parents and lost home either, and his grieving for Obi-Wan is interrupted by TIE fighters and he’s cheering 5 minutes later.Original trilogy just isn’t those kind of movies and that’s ok. We need different types of stories. It’s ok to have a fairy tale that pretends heroes always win and don’t suffer any psychological consequences.(And that’s why we have fanart and fanfiction so people can tell their stories and explore things they care about.) -- source link
