That is because I bought my own copy even before returning the one borrowed from the library. This book is a gorgeous meditation on family, on gender, on history and the telling of histories, on the making and breaking of empires, on loyalties and love.Update: this is my favorite new book read this year, and highly recommended for anyone interested in @read-women or @readpoc2016. It has WWI and the struggle for Indian independence and a feisty lady archaeologist in it. And Herodotus. As the title makes clear, religious belief comes into it, too. I love the prose, I love the characters… I just love this book. -- source link
