antikryptonite:roominthecastle:favorite Gold / Swan moments - 1/?Have I mentioned how much I love that he tailors his own personality and manner off of whoever he’s currently dealing with — so much so that he will even play a character for someone in front of someone else, then turn to that someone else and go straight back to whoever he plays with them! It’s fascinating and very telling of just how long he’s been doing this, going through the motions — still caring deeply, but well used to the myriad of ways these kinds of things can go (not just from living it out over and over again through the centuries, but doubtlessly by also seeing it in the hundreds of possible futures). And one of my favorites of his facets is his ‘Mr. Gold’ facade for the unbelieving Emma Swan. His I’m-a-pawnbroker-and-lawyer-just-trying-to-help straight into I-will-laugh-when-you-threaten-me-with-a-gun-because-that’s-so-amusing-and-even-almost-cute-yes-I-think-I-like-you-Ms-Swan, and his quiet, sharp sarcasm paired with his polite scheming and courteous approaches. It’s almost a direct mixture of how he treats her parents — mentor-ish and helpful to Snow, and snarky and confiding to Charming, with a little bit of almost-camaraderie thrown in just for Emma.A really fascinating mixture, and I love the added undertones of magical teacher and blatant I-can-be-your-ally-but-don’t-turn-your-back-on-me-while-I’m-smiling mentality in the second season! -- source link
