Quiet in the stacks… I don’t think so! More like riot in the stacks as we prepare books from the Brooklyn Museum Library collection to join Agitprop!, a new exhibit focusing on the arts of agitation, propaganda, politics and protest—now on display at the Brooklyn Museum.Propaganda and print have always been at the heart of social change and the library’s collection of works on paper that cover themes of creative activism, social justice, and human rights, is deep and broad. The Brooklyn Museum Library and Archives and other important Museum and University Libraries such as MoMA, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Herman B. Wells Library, Indiana University, have contributed works from their collections on the topics of political and social change. Of note: our volume of the rare periodical Mexican Folkways highlights the work of artist and political activist Tina Modotti. The exhibit itself is as dynamic as its subject—new waves of contemporary artists will be added as the show progresses. So join us now through August 7 for Agitprop! Posted by Roberta Munoz Photos: Brooke Baldeschwiler -- source link
