You might not think of the Brooklyn Museum Libraries and Archives as the first place to go for guidance when trying new recipes… and you would be correct. While we house an abundant amount of resources for art and historical research, we cannot, in good conscience, present ourselves as an authority in the culinary arts. The How Not to Cookbook by Aleksandra Mir at first, seems like it might be full of helpful cooking tips, but we must question the credibility of someone who encourages you to keep your dinner guests waiting because “the hungrier they are, the faster they eat, and the less bad cooking they taste.” Also in our collection is The Dudie Bird Cook Book by Mary Jane Dougherty. Described as a “comprehensive guide on how to prepare a bird from scratch” it insinuates an expertise on the subject. However, Mary Jane seems to have not even secured a bird for the instructional photos, and instead used a small child, which we at the Brooklyn Museum Library and Archives cannot condone. She does not appear to be following any of the health codes required by the City of Brooklyn and is committing too many violations to count. The Library and Archives is open for research by appointment, but again, I urge you NOT to consult our cookbooks.Posted by Ashley Hinshaw -- source link
