shipwreckedwithcaptainmarrow:The various reported flags of Bartholomew Roberts. His first flag depicted himself and “death” holding an hourglass. His second flag showed him standing on the skulls of a Barbadian and a Martiniquain while holding a flaming sword (after the sloops from both Barbados and Martinique had been dispatched to put an end to Roberts). Charles Johnson states that other flags he flew were “a flag with Death in it, with an hour-glass in one hand, cross bones in the other, a dart by it, and underneath a heart dropping three drops of blood”, and one with “the figure of a skeleton and a man portrayed with a flaming sword, intimating a defiance of death itself”. Finally, as described in the Boston Gazette, August 22nd of 1720, another flag that was “a Black Flag with Death’s head and a cutlass in it.” -- source link
