This letter to Raymond Pitcairn, dated December 25, 1939, was signed by dozens of his workmen, craftsmen, artists and others who helped build Glencairn throughout the Great Depression. We at Glencairn are extremely grateful to all those who, in the words of Mildred Pitcairn, “labored with such pride and diligence to produce this unique structure.” Here is the full quotation by Mildred, written to her children just a few years after Raymond passed away in 1966:“You have lived with Glencairn and with these art objects from the beginning. You were a part of the care and loving attention with which Glencairn was built and this collection assembled. You understand how the collection and Glencairn itself are inextricably related to each other. You know, for example, the importance of Glencairn, not just from the viewpoint of the technical or engineering details of the structure, but more importantly because you have the background of the artisans, the craftsmen and all of those who labored with such pride and diligence to produce this unique structure. Glencairn itself is a treasure—in many ways.” (Mildred Pitcairn to her children, June 11, 1971) -- source link
