GO MAKAILA!!!Brave high school junior in Oregon stands up to local anti-gay protesters with a hand-made ‘I heart gays’ sign - and is quickly joined by a legion of supporters“Many of the residents of Tillamook, Oregon who saw anti-gay protesters on the sidewalk chose to simply drive by, ignore them, and go about their day.But one bold teenager refused to ignore their actions and decided to take matters into her own hands and stand up for the LGBTQ community.High school junior Makaila Ragan, 16, was one of many to be annoyed and offended by a group of anti-gay protesters who stood on the roadside in her town with signs proclaiming gays to be sinners. But instead of complain or simply pass them by, Makaila decided to stage a protest of her own. 'I was so irritated because I see them all around town and all they ever do is make people feel like c**p about themselves,’ she told the Tillamook County Pioneer.Taking her stand: 16-year-old Makaila Ragan (pictured) of Tillamook, Oregon, was 'irritated’ by anti-gay protesters that she saw around her town, and decided to take action against themThen on Tuesday May 19, after seeing two protesters outside her mother, Megan McGowan’s, office, Makaila decided to go about making her own sign, checking with her mother, and her mother’s boss that they would allow her to stand along with the men on the curb.'They were totally all for it,’ she said. 'So I made a sign that said: “I love Gays.”’ Standing right next to the anti-gay protesters, Makaila suffered verbal abuse. The two men told her that she would 'burn in hell’ and accused her mother of having abortions. But the teen refused to allow their words to have an impact.And soon enough, supporters began to gather, some strangers, some Mikaila’s school friends, fashioning their own signs and bringing food to keep the movement going.”Read the full piece here -- source link
