Gici AwasThe Gici Awas (from Abenaki) or Wa'skwekkehs (Penobscot) is a monstrous and stiff-legged hairless bear-like creature. Stories of the Gici Awas come from the folklore of the Abenaki and the Penobscot First Nations indigenous to the northeastern United States and eastern Canada. Their penchant for eating human flesh is the reason for their hair loss. In one tale, their daily thirst for water is the reason why certain rivers and lakes begin to dry up. They are so large and cumbersome that if they lie down they are incapable of getting back up. As a result, the Gici Awas prefer to lean on sturdy trees for respite. -- source link
