BGKI caught up with Kaysy Gotay fresh from her “why Black Girls Rock appearance” and she told us a bit about her style…How would you define your personal style?unkempt-chic, sounds like a contradiction but i never like to look too polished, that’s boring! I love high end pieces and mix it with classics and trendy articles of clothing.Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?Some years I’m big on runway trends other years I do whatever I want and it honestly ends up being a trend the following year or two.. Are there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?None, I’m so in love with color…When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?Me in my 6 inch Louboutins, Celine bag and fierce fur coat walking down Madison Ave & helping an old lady cross the street while she continues to ask me if im a movie star lol sounds extra but a black fashion forward girl with a heart is KILLING IT. Do you accept anyone’s critique or are you confident in your style choices?No-one’s opinion matters… I stick to what I feel suites me, I wear what makes me happy… As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?I have a fashion forward Mom, she never wore expensive things but she always looked so rich! watching her and going to Saint Jean Baptiste all girls high school on Madison Ave made me  fall in love with fashion.Do you participate in your local fashion scene?I try… usual busy Interning, school, work and working on my blog but I attend NYFW shows when i have time.How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices? Being a Stylist at Nicole Miller I usually am in one of her dresses for work & my own high heels, when I have class I’m always comfortable BUT fashionable.. tights, Rick Owens sneakers & yankee cap (my fav hat) when I’m at my internship at Hermes of Paris I have a corporate look, purple slacks, heels blouse… everyday is fashion week! What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?High heels and tight denim just bother me.. never truly loved denim unless it was Balmain…What is your favorite trend right now?I loveeeeeee mixing super high end brands with brands that are classic but sooo left field! for Example wearing tweed Chanel like jacket, bow blouse , high waist silk shorts & a pair of Jordan number 9’s in gray( my dream sneakers)! To me this is sooo different, so edgy, so left field SO WRONG but when put together on certain people it looks SOOOO RIGHT!   Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?I did… EPIC FAIL Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?Proenza Schouler, Suno, Chloe..
