This wine pot is considered one of the finest Korean ceramics in the West. Why? Because of its cool green color, its ripe shape, and the delicate details of its lid and surface decoration. 850 years ago, colorfully glazed ceramics were technological wonders, representing the highest achievements of geology, chemistry, and combustion engineering. The Chinese were usually Asia’s ceramic innovators, but Korean potters perfected this light green color, known in the West as celadon. Posted by Joan CumminsEwer in the Shape of a Lotus Bud. Korea, Goryeo dynasty, first half of the 12th century. Carved stoneware with slip decoration under celadon glaze. Brooklyn Museum -- source link
