Today was my first day of guzheng classes at NYU and it was pretty intense! I’m glad my friends had also signed up so we all were exposed to this instrument together. The guzheng is unlike anything I’ve encountered before, I’m not even sure how to describe it, but now I have this huge, gorgeous instrument set up in my room. I picked this guzheng in particular because of the scholar, the green and white strings, and the writing. I love it! One of the interesting things about the instrument is that it’s really sensitive to the touch, I can’t even tap it very lightly with a piece of tissue paper (which I did when I dusted it) without it playing. I hope I can learn to play it at least a tiny bit good! Our teacher seems to be a master and she’s really patient, even though she keeps having to correct my hand position, haha. It’s just a really different type of instrument, the notes are different, the way you read the notes are different, etc. The only pain is carrying it around, it’s heavy and taller than I am! But it’s worth it to take it to my room to practice, so the reward is enough for me. -- source link
