athreos-god-of-hashtags:imakethecard:affinityforanime:Arixmethes was my favorite legendary from Commander 2018. I would love to see this mechanic turned into a complete, named keyword. It would fit perfectly in either Zendikar or maybe even Theros as a successor to the Monstrosity mechanic that takes more inspiration from Shadow of the Colossus. I’ve even done a mock-up of a card frame that has the lower half using the land texture to show that this is a special kind of permanent that starts out as a land. It definitely looks cleaner, but do you really think a set could contain enough Slumber to make it worth keywording?Do you think Marit Lage or Thing in Ice could use this keyword? My instinct says no to the first, maybe yes to the second. The idea of using “Slumber” as a keyword mechanic is interesting (especially if they ever go back to Zendikar or another “land matters” world.) I think the main issue with using that keyword for Arixmethes is the trigger that removes the slumber counters. Because you’re not going to want “whenever you cast a spell” to be the trigger for EVERY card with Slumber. For some, you might want to remove a slumber counter whenever a creature dies. Or whenever an opponent attacks you. Or whenever you cast an enchantment, or another land enters the battlefield, or… The point is, I think you’d give yourself a LOT more design space if the removal trigger for slumber counters wasn’t defined in the keyword itself. -- source link
