worldhistoryfacts:Ali la Pointe, a leader of the Algerian rebels against French rule. He had “march or die” tattooed on his chest and was the author of a number of terrorist attacks and assassinations. He was killed by French troops in 1957 at the age of 27.I’ll update this one since people are taking issue with the use of the word “terrorist” to describe some FLN operations.A couple of definitions of terrorism culled from the internet: 1) the unlawful use or threat of violence especially against the state or the public as a politically motivated means of attack or coercion; 2) the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. I think that many of the attacks carried out by the FLN would fall under these definitions (they were certainly unlawful, whether or not you agree with the laws they violated). The use of the word “terrorist” in the original post is descriptive rather than judgmental. Certainly, the liberation fight against French colonialism was justified, and the French committed a number of atrocities. But I think it is also fair to label the bombing of a dance hall, for example, a terrorist act.But if it’s more fun to be outraged at someone on the internet and ascribe racism to their views, have at it, I guess. -- source link
