The Mediterranean is my home. Its customs, its flavours, its scents and its people are my roots. There’s something about our ways that brings us close (even if we belong to different countries). Today’s focus is on Mediterranean scents through the oils that its plants seep. When I was a kid I used to chew on spearmint leaves that my grandfather cultivated, and it smells exactly like the scent I’d get on the back of my nose: pure, freshly picked spearmint. The bay laurel (laurus nobilis) produces a similar effect, a true-to-leaf, sweet and yummy aroma. Both of these have gone now into my homemade deodorant recipe and I smell like a summer field!Then we have the two edible oils: vitex oil (aka chaste tree berry, vitex agnus castus) is special as Geophoria owns the only official Vitex cultivation in Greece. With its slight spicy undertone, it gives me a kick before working out. Finally, mountain savory (satureja montana) is the one with the warmest scent, great for a comforting winter experience. They are true-to-nature scents of high potency, and they bring the Mediterranean closer to you.
