It doesn’t tickle — The Big HurtIn law enforcement there is often a big problem with crowd control situations, such as a large rioting mob. Tear gas is iffy, especially if the wind picks up, tasers are impractical for a large mob, and water cannons reminding the public too much of the injustices of the Civil Rights Era. Often police forces resort to firing rubber bullets, slugs, and other projectiles but they too are far from perfect. At long range they can be inaccurate and ineffective, at close range they can be deadly.Bruce Lund, CEO of Lund Technologies LLC, decided to work on a solution. You may remember him, he is the inventor of “Tickle Me Elmo” and “My Baby Pony”. His new invention, called “The Big Hurt" is a new addition to the less than lethal world. Officially known of the Variable Velocity Weapon System, the VVWS is not fired with traditional gunpowder but instead utilizes methylacetylene propadiene gas. A rangefinder measures the distance between the shooter and the target and an appropriate amount of gas is automatically measured to created the best non-lethal performance. While still in testing phase, results are looking good for the VVWS. The military is interested in the project, although they are requesting a seperate model that can be used as a lethal weapon as well as a less than lethal weapon. Lund is currently working on a pistol version, and is also looking to adapt his technology for sporting purposes, especially skeet and trap shooting. -- source link
