During his studies in France he was inspired by the Barbizon School of French artists, particularly Corot, and he lived there for 15 years, before returning to live in Sweden. His style fitted somewhere between the realism of the Barbizon School and Impressionism. Because of his way of painting the sun and its haze, he was often called Solmålaren (The Sun Painter). -- source link
