Toggle,hook or belt (1820 – 60). Originally of Yup'ik origin from Alaska,but it may have been collected from the Tlingit, who of course mayhave worn it.Skinthong, with a flat thimble hook at one end, and a carved toggle inthe form of a bear, wolf or dog head at the other. Both these partsare made of walrus ivory.Thehook is engraved with two concentric circles, and is pierced forsuspension. All engravings on the mammal’s head are filled withblack.Thisitem is labelled “Chilcat belt”. It is 60cm long, 3.5cm wide,and may originally have come from a sewing kit. -- source link
