antediluvianechoes:Nipponites, Emiliano TrocoBeached tangles, half jelly, half stone, limp as wet shoelaces and solid as bone, littered the beach like balls of unwanted yarn. The ammonites’ tentacles sagged in the sand, dribbled between cockleshells and surf-tossed algae, and drew little rivers of pale flesh from their bodies. The shells were knots. They grew that way, though, laying there, abandoned by the sea, one could imagine they’d been hammered by the currents, as if waves were blacksmiths and beat once ordered geometries into gnarled and braided curls. Lazily, a horseshoe crab picked at the gooey bits, sorted them into its spidery maw. Its tiny limbs moved like watch parts. The waves crashed behind it, and another ammonite rolled onto the sand like an old puzzle the ocean no longer desired. -- source link
