old-type-40:cleowho:Commercially-available toy Daleks(manufactured byHerts Plastic Moulders Ltd.) used in a SPFX Model Shot in The Power of the Daleks - season 04 - 196630 years later Star Trek DS9 was doing the same thing with off the shelf Christmas ornaments and model kits. The FX people filled the models with explosives and glitter. And the way in which the Klingon ship below blows apart makes me think that the entire dorsal surface was glued on as part of the procedure to assemble the thing.Star Trek was doing it as early as the original series - the derelict USS Constellation in “The Doomsday Machine” (1967) was an off-the shelf USS Enterprise model kit. The Constellation’s registry (NCC-1017) even uses the same digits as the Enterprise (NCC-1701) because they were using the kit’s decals, just rearranged! -- source link
