Hiraeth Creature #1161 - Caspardyus“The Fae Realm’s magic is entwined with Hiraeth, making the two forever linked. Though they are sister realms, they follow many different rules and customs: the people of Hiraeth are tied to nature and live by her whims, while the Fae control their own reality, having to set borders with one another to ensure harmony. Contemporary times have seen inhabitants of both realms remain distant but also curious, the boundaries between them creating inquisitiveness and whimsy rather than fear and dread. Fae believe all beings are free to make their own decisions, but there was a time when they were split on this, and many Fae believed the folk of Hiraeth were lesser people meant to be conquered. Thankfully, many Fae fought against this, amongst them being the Caspardyus— giant Fae of incredible strength, able to hurl bolts of lightning out of the air, erupt earth into flame with a footstep, and cleave buildings with a single strike. Caspardyus are born from the meek and the downtrodden— individual Fae oppressed by those of greater power. Tyrannical Fae wished to create a hierarchy in their realm as well as in Hiraeth, which led to warring Fae Lords. Those who had lost everything to the malevolence of their wayward kin, devoted themselves to each other to become Caspardyus and fight back against those who would see them slain or in servitude. From the first union, other lost Fae were inspired and eventually they formed a fierce vanguard. Each amalgam looks different, but all of them are said to be gargantuan in size with featureless heads and limbs seared by their own wild magic. Caspardyus and the noble Fae lords ensured that Fae would eventually come together under the belief that every soul is entitled to freedom. The Caspardyus would act as vigilantes for the Fae Realm in the coming generations after the totalitarians were destroyed, and were instrumental in defending the realm when the Dreaming Plane was flooded with abominations made from the nightmares of the Giant’s March.
