workingclasshistory:On this day, 24 July 1961, Kredelle Petway was arrested at Jackson airport in Mississippi along with her brother, father and another man. Petway, who was born in Alabama but was studying in Tallahassee, Florida, had travelled back home to participate in a freedom ride from Montgomery to Jackson. Freedom riding was a direct action campaign against unlawfully segregated public transport, where mixed race groups would travel together in breach of racist Jim Crow rules. We only post highlights on here, for all our anniversaries follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wrkclasshistory https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1173799309471884/?type=3 -- source link
