VIVARIUMThe idea of owning your own home has become like a faerytale. Insidious advertising promises ‘ideal living’, a fantasyversion of reality that we strive towards. It is the bait that leadsmany into a trap. Once ensnared we work our whole lives topay off debts. The social contract is a strange and invisibleagreement that we flutter towards like moths to aflame. Natural areas are destroyed to make way for rows ofidentical houses, mazes for an atomised society to live out theirdays. We eat processed food wrapped in plastic. Mediacompetes with parents to set strange new agendas in the mindsof children. The dream of owning a home can soon turn into anightmare. Consumerism is consuming us. Vivarium was fed onthese ideas. It amplifies and the ordinary through a sci-fi lens. Itis a surreal and twisted tale that is darkly humorous, sad,frightening and weirdly satisfying.
