antiquecompass:Can we just take a moment to appreciate how intelligent Castus is in this whole moment? After he woke-up from probably one of the worst hangovers in Ancient Roman History (at least in the Republic era), he found out a) the city is being attacked and b) he has literally lost everything he’s known (for the past few years at least). One major clue here that Castus didn’t know about Heracleo’s plan is that he was fighting the Romans. Look, the pirates constantly made deals with higher powers and Castus would’ve known that, but when he wakes up? The city is being attacked, the ships are gone, his friends are dead, and you cannot blame a guy for going towards the ONE semi-friendly face in a sea of hostility. And look, Lugo doesn’t bother to attack him where Agron and Crixus do. I think, that, says a fuck ton. But Castus? He doesn’t fight here. He knows there’s no time for that shit. And he takes a lot (as has been pointed about others before). He really is all calm waters with a ton of shit churning below. Castus knows that right now? His only ally is Nasir. His only chance to get out of this alive is to quietly go with the Rebels until he has a chance to explain himself/prove his loyalty and so he goes, without a word and without a fight. He remains with his hands tied for a long-ass time. Even after they get to the mountains, you can see him sitting down at one of the fires between Random Angry Rebel of Close-Shaven Hair Whose Name I Do Not Know and Saxa, who are probably acting as his guards. Later, in the background, you see him standing up with arms still bound (but at least someone got him a cloak). We know from promo shots that he eventually fights alongside the Rebels and I can’t wait to see what happens there. I like to think Castus’ motto in life is that of Dory: Just Keep Swimming.Another sidenote: I actually can really understand how Nasir sees and sympathizes with Castus. Nasir is a character who, in general, has been shown to have a ton of empathy for others. It’s something that’s STILL been carried through to this season. Nasir and Castus are both men who sort of have a unique place among their respective camps. They’re both outsiders in many ways. Castus is clearly not ethnically Cilician (Cilicia is basically modern day southeasthern Turkey). In all likelihood, much like Nasir, he came to the life very young and it carried him away as a young man. Look at that tattoo of pirate conquests. There’s a lot, which means Castus has been doing this for a long ass time. Even with bonds of brotherhood and experience, Outisders will always know part of them is marked as such and Naisr? Born Syrian, raised Roman, and not a holding a ludus-tie, has got to feel that in moments. Even among the Germans who came in later; they’re tied together by common language and culture. Nasir must have moments where he just wants someone who understands a little bit of what it’s like, because he’s really sort of lacking in friends this season, as far as we’ve seen. Idk, I guess what I’m trying to say, is that Nasir probably sees shades of himself in Castus, and that’s why he’s always going to go to bat for a guy who everyone else hates and wants to kill, because that HAS to remind him of where he once stood. -- source link
