Gil de Siloe (c.1440-1501) Santiago, Espana, 2020.This wonderful gilded alabaster statue, frequently reproduced, is an icon of the Camino Santiago, itself incorporating several of the icons of the Camino. It was originally part of a tomb at the Carthusian monastery of Miraflores near Burgos but is now possessed by the Cloisters of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. This photo was taken while it was included in a special exhibition of works by the Sculptor Alonso Berruguete at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. For anyone with an interest in Spain and its culture or even just the Camino Santiago, the small exhibition is a must see. It continues to 17 February. -- source link
