edwarddespard:L’étalagiste - The WindowdresserLouis-Philippe hands up those “old” trappings he has assumed for the Revolution - the Charter he wore as a coat, a pike, a Phrygian cap, the tricolours, La Marseillaise, etc. for sale as curiosities. This 1834 caricature indicates how Republicans felt about Louis-Philippe’s 1830 adoption of their symbols, and the idea of a throne surrounded by Republican institutions. By 1832, the July Monarchy had already started discarding even the symbols. This was demonstrated in the fate of the Pantheon frieze, which after 1830 was supposed to incorporate Republican symbols. The idea was in the process of being downplayed and then abandoned in 1832 - something the Amis would have been reminded if they left the Musain and looked up to see the shroud-covered pediment where the frieze was supposed to be. -- source link
