alwaysmarilynmonroe:Although, not one of Marilyn’s most known films, Don’t Bother To Knock was Marilyn’s first starring role in her breakout year of 1952. Here, she plays a mentally ill baby sitter, who has just been released from hospital. The film wasn’t a huge success at the box office or with critics, as the fans were shocked by the dark genre of the movie and the character Marilyn was playing, however it did make one million dollars profit, which is not commonly known. A lot of people assume that Marilyn couldn’t act, because she did a lot of comedy films, when in fact if you look at her main filmography (being only around 12 starring roles) you’ll see that she did quite a few different genres. I’ve heard many people comment, how Marilyn wasn’t a good actress as she was always playing herself, when in reality it’s sad to say, but the melancholy and sadness portrayed in Don’t Bother To Knock, was closer to her personally. Therefore, the fact she has convinced so many people she was this happy, bubbly, dumb blonde, proves just how incredibly talented she was an actress. -- source link
