Character Story:Much like the character for 日 일 sun, 月 began as a representation of the half moon. Shown here in this graphic from the Chinese Character Wiki (source in Korean), one can see how the original dot in the center of the moons form gradually extended into a dash, as well as the slight extensions of the moons round form also extended until the rotated and extended form we see today was realized.  Study vocab here!
