theroughcopy: I’m willing to bet you’re not as lazy as you think you are. A lot of writers who procrastinate will end up blaming themselves for procrastination. Don’t get me wrong, it was a choice to come on Tumblr rather than work on my current project, but there’s also another reason I started procrastinating in the first place. It’s all about how we think about the task ahead of us. There’s a reason you’re hesitant to start, and it could be that it seems like too much. When you think about just how much goes into writing an entire novel, poem, short story, or whatever it is that you’re working on, you start overwhelming yourself without really realizing it. You’ve just thought about a year’s work, when really, all you had to do today was write one page. On the other hand, maybe it’s just too many little tasks. You’re focused on the details of what your doing; in fact, so much so that it seems like a chore to even start! Or maybe you’re afraid of what will happen when you finish- when your readers (whoever they may be) look at your work with a more critical eye. In this scenario, you feel intimidated, and too unconfident in your abilities to give it the try you would’ve if you hadn’t. I’m sure there’s all sorts of reasons we procrastinate, and yeah, it may be partially because we’re lazy, but if you accept that and find why you don’t feel like doing this project in particular, you might be able to become even more productive than you already are! After all, you love to write, and I bet you’d love to see all your goals to completion. -- source link
